The Death and Life of Charlie St Cloud by Ben Sherwood
(BCBC1)
Gillian I chose this book to start off the reading group, and oh dear, I really regretted it as I read it! A very light read. However, it helped us to gel as a group as we all gave our reasons for not really enjoying it.... so in a perverse way, it was quite a god one to start off with! 2 [edit]
Sue A non-challenging holiday read, about a boy's interaction with his dead brother's ghost. 4 [edit]

Hideous Kinky by Esther Freud
(BCBC1)
Gillian A light read which made me feel much happier about my mothering skills!! 7 [edit]
Sue Very evocative of the hippy-era, travel to far off places and a freedom (irresponsibility?) which might be a bit scary now. 7 [edit]

November 2005

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
(BCBC1)
Gillian I found this a difficult read at the time (had to concentrate!) but it blew my mind away. I loved the way the chapters nested in each other, complete in their own right but also linking. Brilliant. 9 [edit]
Sue A fabulous book, with each chapter written in a different style yet cleverly linked together, and no questions are left unanswered by the end. 9 [edit]
